Our philosophy

Aber Group has a strong business philosophy which is evident throughout our organisation, governance and behaviours. We exist to build resilient businesses to protect and spread our culture & philosophy, ensuring future generations have access to the same meaningful employment opportunities.

Our philosophy to business was born through our founders and their alternate views and approach towards the commercial world and the role business should play in life and society. Today our people, employee ownership model, governance & culture reflect and build on this philosophy.

Meaningful employment
in West Wales

Having been headquartered in Aberystwyth for over 38 years, we have a strong care for and commitment to West Wales. We strive to be a productive and active member of the local community and economy.

The alternative culture and lifestyle afforded by living in West Wales allowed our philosophy to grow among likeminded individuals, which is reflected in our culture and values today. Our founders built the opportunity for our current employee owners to have meaningful employment which now exists both within and outside of Wales. All Aber Group business adds strength and resilience to facilitate the creation of new opportunity and protect our businesses both within and outside of West Wales.

Employee
Ownership

Aber Group is employee owned, meaning everyone who works here owns, shares and is directly involved in the day-to-day running, direction, and success of our organisation.

Being employee owned has a significant impact on who we are, how we think, and the way we progress. It brings a unique perspective to our business and our culture.
‍
Our founders put us into employee ownership as part of their long-standing commitment to providing opportunities within the region of West Wales, where they founded ABER Instruments in 1988. We want to ensure that we pass their legacy on to future generations of employee owners.

Aber Group’s culture is protected through key articles:

our Why statement, our Guiding Purpose, and our Ethos & Values

Each of these serve a specific purpose to preserve our philosophy. They act as a strategic reference point, a filter to make decisions against and ensure anyone who joins Aber can understand the principles we are built upon. They will guide us to a future we can be proud of.

The Core Pillars of Aber’s Culture come from our Why Statement, they influence how we act from day to day interactions to long term strategy.

At Aber, we trust and care to unlock potential and improve wellbeing.
